Let's face it - who doesn't love a good old fashioned jam - made the way it should be with just fruit and sugar : )
At Johnson's Cottage we make our jam the old fashioned way and boy does it taste good!
Here's how to do it in a jiffy....
Cut up your fruit, weigh it and pulp it slowly in a big pot on a low heat.
When it's cooked down, add the same amount of sugar as you have fruit and bring it to a rapid boil.
I use a thermometer to tell me when the jam is ready, but a simple way to do it is to pop a drop on a cold saucer.
If it gets thick then it's set, if not crank it up a bit and cook a bit longer. Jam usually takes about five minutes at a rolling boil to set.
When it's at setting point, pour it into sterilised jars and seal.
Simple as that - enjoy!
